Absolutely! Bravo, Jennifer. Precisely the reason my friends and I will vote NO on the marriage amendment. Also — our superb workforce makes Minnesota attractive to companies able to provide the sorts of jobs your husband (and I) had to leave behind in California. An antediluvian approach to gay rights will alienate precisely the sorts of talented, creative, forward-thinking employees we need in order to keep our state competitive in the global economy. Plus it's just dumb to use the constitution to deny rights to citizens it's supposed to protect. Good for you. Your son sounds like a wonderful young man.

Sigh . . . I understand this dilemma all too well and I hate it. Time to put on our thinking caps.

I'm with Sharee. I, too, am hoping for another book.
I also expect a warning whenever you'll be in my neighborhood so we can get together.
I'll miss the blogs.

Darn. I'll miss these blogs. Good luck with your paying gig--I hope it leaves you with enough time to write another book. Easy for me to say, I know. Best to you.

Oh Ann, I feel the wistfulness throughout the whole post. The push and pull of doing what we love and moving slow to observe the world so we can record it, thoughtfully, versus having to survive in it. It's like Sid's nine beanrows in Crossing to Safety. It's beautiful and awful, and so many people are in this same boat that it's like a communal iCloud of all the would-be essays, up there in the ether. All the things we would be saying if we had the time to say them. I trust the words are still communing somewhere. And the ones we pull down and actually write, will be the absolute cream of the crop. Best of luck to you. But don't disappear from Twitter, please. xo

Ann, I will miss you and your regular essays more then I can say. However, it seems to that your wisdom and successes in life have come from an unusual ability to adapt to what is needed in the present and move on. Before long, you take advantage of the next opportunity...becoming more of who you are. I look forward to hearing from, and about you in the future. Best wishes, and thanks for your insightful and enjoyable companionship.
